The Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Cons might soon have a feature that lets them work like a computer mouse. This curious possibility comes from recent shipping documents linked to a company suspected of supplying parts to Nintendo, which mention the use of adhesive tape commonly found on the bottoms of computer mice.
This wouldn’t be the first time a handheld console included a mouse-like mode for its controllers. Back in 2023, Lenovo’s Legion GO offered a similar feature. It’s interesting to see how Nintendo, known for its innovative spirit, might explore such a function.
A user named LiC on Famiboards disclosed this intriguing find. They’ve been digging through Vietnamese customs data, associating it with a company that might be one of Nintendo’s component providers. Since mid-2024, LiC’s discoveries have been a rich source for rumors swirling around the Switch 2.
In early January 2025, LiC offered more insights, revealing that they came across references to a type of polyethylene plastic adhesive tape meant “to stick to game console handles.” These have even been termed “mouse soles” in a data entry, a term typically used for describing the underside of computer mice. Such a label hints that the upcoming console could include a feature mimicking mouse-like functions.
LiC identified two specific mouse sole model numbers: LG7 and SML7. However, these are currently unlisted in public component directories, implying they might be linked to forthcoming products. The data indicates these adhesive sheets are 90 x 90mm, big enough to cover the new Joy-Cons’ backs, especially given the previously leaked dimensions of the Switch 2. Nevertheless, given their square shape, some trimming would probably be necessary before applying them—assuming LiC’s insights are indeed accurate.
While Nintendo is known for embracing cutting-edge technology, this isn’t exactly uncharted territory. The Lenovo Legion GO has used similar tech since 2024, allowing its right controller to act like a mouse if turned sideways. Lenovo even includes a circular holder to help the controller glide over surfaces more easily.
The Legion GO also features magnetic rails for attaching controllers, which is another rumored feature of the upcoming Switch 2. Thus, Lenovo’s device might offer a peek into what Nintendo’s future hybrid console could deliver.
