You know, there’s a lot of excitement buzzing around the office today. My colleagues—those die-hard, old-school Elder Scrolls fans—are practically throwing a party over the latest stream of The Elder Scrolls Oblivion Remake. Meanwhile, folks who are more future-focused might be pleased to hear that Todd Howard has again assured us of the existence of The Elder Scrolls 6. Not only that, but he also mentioned that the team is actively working on it.
Now, before we all dive headfirst into the flood of news and footage about the Oblivion Remaster, Todd left us with this little nugget: “obviously we’re working on the 6th chapter here.”
Can you believe it? That’s the most significant bit of information we’ve had about The Elder Scrolls 6 since back in March 2024. That was when Bethesda confirmed that early test versions were already circulating among testers, who hinted that the game is actually, and hopefully, shaping up to be fun.
Going back even further, remember the juicy tidbit from October 2023? A former Skyrim designer gave us quite the hot take, advising fans not to expect any updates until about six months before the game’s release. Just a month earlier, Phil Spencer shared his belief that we might see the game in about five years, which seemed a bit tongue-in-cheek at the time. Fast forward nearly two years, and we still don’t have much to grasp onto.
Let’s be honest here, actual updates from Bethesda have been akin to tumbleweed drifting through an Old West town. The only real confirmation that development was underway came in August 2023, a solid five years after the game was initially teased at E3. Is it just me, or did they perhaps jump the gun with that announcement?
All jokes and sarcasm aside, it’s reassuring to get even the faintest acknowledgment of Elder Scrolls 6. Time flies! I was just a kid hitting the books when they first announced it, and now here I am, an adult grappling with bills, life’s vices, and navigating dating apps. Bethesda, still arguably the top dog in first-person RPGs, will likely create something phenomenal. But, could we at least get some concept art or maybe a teaser? I mean, Liam Neeson had more tangible evidence of his daughter’s existence in Taken than we fans have of this game’s reality.
