Oh man, so get this, the crew behind Cybershoes, that bizarre little gadget for walking in VR, has officially thrown in the towel. Like, they’re done. Kinda sad, right? Anyway, this guy named Antony ‘Skarred Ghost’ Vitillo was the first to spill the beans. Apparently, they stopped making these things two years ago! Crazy how time flies. And then, bam, one branch shuts down in 2024, and by April 2025, the whole thing just fizzles out. Wild ride.
Oh, MIXED chimed in too, with co-founder Igor Mitric Lavovski dropping the bomb on LinkedIn, saying “Cybershoes GmbH was officially shut down a month ago.” Sounds official, right? But here’s the kicker: they’re an Austrian company, which means they’re supposed to handle bankruptcy stuff pretty quick, like within 60 days. Legal stuff, yada yada, might give us more deets soon.
Cybershoes weren’t your average treadmill either — nah, these were for lazy sit-down gamers. They’re kinda like these shoe rollers with all the gizmos to make you feel like you’re walking or running, but, get this, while you’re sitting. Pretty comfy, right?
So, they kicked off back in 2018, no big venture capital love, but they still snagged over €200,000 on Kickstarter. That’s how it got from this janky prototype to a slick consumer toy. Then 2019 rolls around, and boom, here comes IndieGogo with like €140,000 from more than 500 folks. Nice, right? I guess they were trying to get the word out and maybe grab some investor attention.
Fast forward to late 2024, and their Quest-compatible version was gone from shelves. Not that you could find them on Amazon anyway — they were out well before then.
So, if you still want the scoop on these quirky things, check out Vitillo’s take on the Quest version. Or don’t. Up to you.
