Alright, so here’s the thing. Google might be about to drop some new smart glasses at the Google I/O conference, which is set for next week. I mean, who really knows if they’re trying to give Ray-Ban’s Meta Glasses a run for their money or just showing off? Anyway — Sameer Samat from Android kinda teased them, without actually saying a word about ’em. Funny how that works, right?
He’s like, “Oh hey, you’ll see some cool Android stuff.” Meanwhile, he’s got these glasses on that look suspiciously techy. And yeah, my amateur detective skills (okay, I just cropped a screenshot from YouTube) tell me these glasses are rocking that classic Ray-Ban Wayfarer vibe. There’s this little camera sensor on the left side. Fancy.
Oh, and there’s some LED thing above it. Can you say, “Smile, you’re on camera?” It’s probably so you know when you’re being filmed or photographed or whatever, kinda like those Meta Glasses Ray-Ban has.
The arms of the glasses? They’re chunky. I’m guessing there’s a whole tech world crammed in there. Battery, processors, you name it. Samat hinted about some Android XR system, so maybe that’s the magic sauce. Got me thinking though, there’s this tiny slit thing near his ear. If it’s not a built-in speaker for audio, it’s possibly a button. But hey, who am I to decide what’s what?
In another corner of the tech world, Apple might be cooking up its own smart glasses too. Bloomberg’s got word on a new processor they’re working on. Could be just gossip or, you know, Apple getting serious about this whole glasses game.
So yeah, Google I/O is a date to mark — May 20-21. There’s a bunch of talks, with two specifically centered around Android XR. I’ll be plugged in (digitally, not literally). You can catch it on YouTube, if you’re curious. Starts Tuesday, May 20th at 10 AM Pacific time. Save a seat on your couch, and see what they’ve got.
Anyway, here’s a peek at what’s been teased. Take a look and decide for yourself.
