It’s reasonable to expect an expanded roster of Pokemon capable of Mega Evolving with the latest installment, giving Pokemon Legends: Z-A a chance to make up for the intervening years. Though no new Mega forms have been officially unveiled yet, there are quite a few Pokemon that are prime candidates for receiving these upgraded forms when the game drops.

Which Pokemon Should Receive New Mega Evolutions in Legends: Z-A?

The Kalos Starter Trio May Have More Time to Shine

There’s a lot of speculation about which starter Pokemon will kick off the adventure in Pokemon Legends: Z-A. Many fans hope for a return of the original Kalos trio: Froakie, Fennekin, and Chespin. Previously, it was assumed a new trio might take their place, similar to Legends: Arceus, but fresh rumors are pointing towards the classic Kalos starters making a comeback. Regardless of who gets the starting slot, these three Pokemon are integral to the essence of Kalos and will likely make an appearance.

It seems almost unfair that the Kalos starters were left out of the Mega Evolution fun that graced the teams of Kanto and Hoenn. If they are selected as the starter trio for Legends: Z-A, Mega Evolutions could serve as a fitting substitute for the regional forms that their predecessors received in Legends: Arceus. Introducing Mega Evolutions for Greninja, Delphox, and Chesnaught would be a wonderful tribute to the rich history of the Kalos region while stepping boldly into what lies ahead.

Legendary Pokemon Can Mega Evolve

Players can also look forward to the return of the iconic Generation 6 Legendaries: Xerneas, Yveltal, and Zygarde. The presence of these mythical creatures offers a chance to delve deeper into lore that hasn’t been fully explored. Since the secondary titles of Generation 6 didn’t add much to the core games, the narrative of their world has felt incomplete. Given the game’s title, Zygarde is expected to play a pivotal part in the storyline, similar to Arceus’ role in its own legendary tale. Much like how Arceus shared the spotlight with new forms for Dialga and Palkia, it’s quite possible Xerneas and Yveltal will receive similar treatment. New Mega forms for these legends would nicely mirror the transformations seen in Legends: Arceus.

Note: Rayquaza currently stands as the only Legendary with a Mega Evolution, so adding Kalos Legendaries to this exclusive group would certainly be something special.

AZ’s Floette Has Potential That’s Been Left Unexplored

Those familiar with the Kalos games might recall AZ, the mysterious, seemingly immortal former king responsible for the ultimate weapon. His special connection with a unique form of Floette has made him one of the series’ biggest enigmas. The excitement around AZ’s Floette increased even further when fans discovered unused assets in Pokemon X and Y revealing an obtainable version, known as Eternal Flower Floette.

Legends: Z-A offers the perfect opportunity to expand on the story behind AZ and this elusive Floette. One intriguing theory could be that Eternal Flower Floette is actually a Mega Evolved Floette. Never before has a middle-stage Pokemon received a Mega Evolution, but this unique Floette has always stood out as a one-of-a-kind Pokemon. If it were a Mega form, it could explain its distinctive appearance and its implied higher power level.

The Porygon Line Matches Legends: Z-A’s Themes

Introducing a Mega Evolution for Porygon might seem like a curveball at first, but it’s surprisingly fitting within the context of Legends: Z-A. The game’s narrative revolves around transforming Lumiose City, reimagining it into a seamless space for both humans and Pokemon. Being a man-made creature, the Porygon line aligns perfectly with this theme of development and innovation. By adding a Mega Evolution for Porygon, the game could allow players to not only overhaul a city but to also upgrade a Pokemon that mirrors this journey of growth and transformation.
