So, okay, here we go. The 2025 WNBA season kicks off this week. Meta’s at it again, streaming games like nobody’s business. And by nobody’s business, I mean you can catch it on Quest, using that Xtadium app—yeah, and Horizon Worlds NBA Arena too. Meta’s update says 20 live games are on the menu this season, with five of those in some crazy 180-degree video. Imagine feeling like you’re almost on the court… or maybe not. Who knows if it’s actually that immersive?
This stuff’s only for folks in the US though. The Xtadium app’s where you get both live and on-demand games. Oh, and you can have watch parties. I mean, private ones in Xtadium, or get out there with the public party scene in NBA Arena on Horizon Worlds. It’s like a VR sports bar, I guess.
Mark your calendar for May 27th because NBA Arena’s rolling out WNBA-themed avatar swag. Buying it is as easy as clicking buttons in the Horizon Worlds app.
Now, here’s the kicker—geo-restrictions. Yep, the classic “can’t watch it ‘cause you live too close” rule applies. Can’t say I get why you can’t watch a local game but them’s the breaks!
And here’s a rundown of the matches. It’s a lot of dates and teams, but hang in there:
– May 18: Minnesota Lynx heading to Los Angeles. 3:00 pm PT, if you’re keeping track.
– May 22: New York’s in Chicago. Might be intense. 5:00 pm PT.
– May 27: Dive into immersive mode! Chicago vs. Phoenix at 7:00 pm PT.
– June 9: You’ve got the Golden State Valkyries up against Los Angeles. Another evening game at 7:00 pm PT.
– June 17 and 18th have the Aces and Mercury doing their thing in Minnesota and Connecticut, respectively.
– The list goes on with Dallas, Atlanta, and Seattle mixing it up through summer.
– Fast forward to September 4 for another immersive show between Dallas and Golden State. Evening time, 7:00 pm PT.
See you courtside. Or, well, virtually courtside. Or something like that.
