Last Thursday, an unexpected surge in orders took the makers of Bigscreen Beyond 2 by surprise. The demand for their new lightweight and sleek PC VR headset was so overwhelming that it surpassed sales of the original version within just 24 hours. To put it in perspective, the initial day’s sales for Beyond 2 were equivalent to what the company achieved over six months with the previous model.
After Bigscreen launched Beyond 2, the numbers began to speak loud and clear. In only 25 minutes, Beyond 2 had already matched the entire first day’s sales of Beyond 1. Within an hour, sales were double that of the initial launch day of the predecessor. In the first ten hours alone, orders for Beyond 2 exceeded what Beyond 1 managed in its first four months on the market.
Bigscreen founder and CEO, Darshan Shankar, took to social media platform X on Friday to unveil the most remarkable statistic yet: “In just 24 hours, sales of Beyond 2 reached 10 times that of Beyond 1 on its launch day two years ago. In essence, the first 24 hours of Beyond 2 equaled the first six months of Beyond 1’s sales. That’s truly extraordinary.”
Shankar highlighted how the company achieved this feat without spending a dime on advertising. “No influencer was paid to hype our product. We didn’t hire an agency for a costly promotional video. No advertising whatsoever,” he stated.
While eschewing traditional advertising, Bigscreen did opt to distribute a handful of Beyond 2 units, about ten, to a select group of reviewers, including Tested, Thrillseeker, MRTV, and VR Flight Sim Guy.
For those who missed the buzz, Beyond 2 is available in two versions: one equipped with eye-tracking (Beyond 2e) and one without (Beyond 2), priced at $1,019 and $1,219, respectively. The new model maintains the excellent dual 1-inch 2,560 × 2,560 micro-OLED displays of the original Beyond but innovates with a wider field-of-view and enhanced clarity, thanks to a new pancake lens design. This update extends Beyond 2’s diagonal FOV to 116 degrees, up from the original’s 102 degrees, and introduces an adjustable IPD mechanism in a lighter package, now at just 107g.
Initial shipments for Beyond 2 were scheduled for April, and the Beyond 2e for May. However, given the incredible demand, any new orders made are now expected to ship in June.
