HOTEL BARCELONA, huh? So, here we are. This, uh, slasher fever dream from SWERY and SUDA51 is crashing onto PS5 this September. CULT Games and White Owls are setting this up, and frankly, I’m not sure what’s wilder: the game or the fact that anyone lets serial killers check into a fancy hotel. I mean, seriously, I can barely get a late checkout.
Anyway—before I get totally lost—this hotel sits smack-dab between Pennsylvania and West Virginia. It’s not just any place, but more like some luxurious facade hiding a trap for America’s serial killers. I guess they need vacations too?
You play as Justine. A novice federal marshal. Oh, but guess what? Her mind’s a bit crowded, shared with Dr. Carnival, a psychopath with a gnarly history. Together, you’re taking out those killers one way or another. No pressure.
Right, let’s talk gameplay. It’ll mess with your head, more than if you watched horror movies back-to-back with no sleep. Not your usual side-scroller anyway. There’s tactical stuff—moving right, timing, all that jazz. And, fun fact, dying has perks. You get “Slasher Phantoms”—or something like that—echoes from your past attempts to give you a hand. Strange kind of camaraderie, no?
And imagine your power, fueled by blood. Yikes. Literally, the more gross it gets, the stronger you are. Plus, there’s this Skull Gauge—once it’s maxed out, you’re basically unleashing chaos. Kinda cool, in a deranged way.
So, you got seven horror zones. Haunted? Check. Twisted labs? Double check. Each zone has its big bad boss. Sounds intense, right? Strategic analysis, quick reflexes—I hope you’re better at it than I am.
Oh, and let’s not forget SUDA51 and SWERY—this duo is like chocolate and chili. Weirdly great pairing. If you’ve played Killer7 or Deadly Premonition, you know what I mean. This project is their brainchild, and it shows—bloody, surreal, unforgettable. Might as well give it a whirl when it drops.
