Wow, so Meta just dropped this big news bomb that there’s a Zoom app now in the Horizon Store. Crazy, right? Now you can pop into online meetings as your Quest avatar. I mean, wasn’t this already a thing back in 2021 with Horizon Workrooms? That was more a one-stop-shop for VR meet-ups, with webcams and everything, all mashed up into one space.
But now, if Zoom’s your jam and nothing else, hey, there’s a standalone app you can snag for free. They say it’s like this smooth add-on for the Zoom app you already eyeball on your phone or computer. Sounds fancy, but who knows?
I keep thinking, imagine your avatar just sitting there in a Zoom call. Not inside some virtual boardroom though, just your VR guy or gal projected in flat 2D video. Someone out there is probably wondering if it’s even worth jumping into meetings as a Meta avatar. Sure, they’ve gotten better but, let’s be real, they’re still kinda cartoonish. Especially next to Apple’s shiny new Persona avatars with their Vision Pro. Apple’s got their Persona Zoom deal rolling since early 2024.
Anyway—ugh, got off track there—if you’re into free stuff, this Zoom on Quest gig could be your thing. Grab it from the Horizon Store, log in just like you would anywhere else, and tada, you’re all set to gab away.
