Oh man, where to even start with this? So, this game, COLD VR, right? It kinda takes the whole Superhot VR vibe and just flips it on its head. Maybe you remember Superhot with its “time moves when you move” thing? Yeah, well, COLD VR, it’s doing the opposite. Move, and everything slows down. Wild, huh? You’re basically forced to think on your feet—or, more like, think while you’re barely moving them. It’s strange, but somehow it works.
Anyway, if you haven’t jumped into COLD VR yet, they dropped it back in February, and now they’re teasing a big update set for June 2nd. Which, side note, is around my birthday, so maybe it’s meant to be. Five new levels dropping on Quest and PC VR. Maybe I’ll treat myself. Or maybe not. Decisions, decisions.
The devs, ALLWARE, are throwing in a new main campaign, rejigging enemy AI, and all that jazz. Makes you wonder if they’ll make those creepy Backroom levels a thing you can skip. Like, sometimes I dig creepy; sometimes I’m just not in the mood, ya know?
Oh, but the menu! They’re apparently overhauling the whole staring-at-the-menu-screen thing, so you can jump into the action quicker. Not that I mind taking a moment to breathe before getting tossed into the chaos.
Then, there’s all this extra stuff, like catching weapons mid-air, better visuals, actual room-scale movement (finally, right?). Plus, if you got one of those bHaptics vests, you’ll feel every hit and shot. Which, honestly, might be a bit much first thing in the morning. Oh, and they’re still working on a version for PSVR 2. No idea when that’s dropping, though.
Meanwhile, if you’re curious or just want a new VR thing to try out, it’s sitting there on the Horizon Store for Quest 2 and up, or Steam for PC VR. Throws you back about 20 bucks. Worth it? Maybe. It’s VR, after all—always a wild ride.
Anyway, what was I saying? Oh, right—COLD VR. Just maybe check it out. Or don’t. Up to you.
