Irem Collection Volume 3 is out, and it’s like a trip down the most chaotic memory lane of all time, I swear. So, it’s got these old arcade shooters from the 80s and 90s. ININ and Tozai Games kinda dusted off these classics — ever heard of Mr. Heli? It came out in ’87, and it’s cute and chaotic all at once. You can scroll around because… why not, right? Then there’s Mystic Riders from ’92. You’re on brooms dodging all sorts of crazy stuff. And Dragon Breed — you’re riding a fire-breathing dragon! Can you imagine? I was mind-blown!
Anyway — wait, no — back to the games. They’re tough, like lose-all-your-quarters tough. These weren’t made easy for you, nope. Designed to make everyone go broke in the arcades, haha. But hey, now they’ve added some handy options for today’s players. Like, you can remap the controls to your liking. I can’t even tell you how clutch that is. Changing difficulty levels? Lifesaver. Totally saves your thumbs, too—autofire is a blessing when I think about it.
Oh, the save/load thingamajig. If you’re like me and can’t deal with losing all the time, it’s your best friend. Keep you going longer, that’s for sure. And then, boss battles, talk about taking no prisoners!
Get this, they threw in visual filters to make the games look like they’re from those old clunky CRT monitors. Pixels everywhere, so nostalgic. Or you could mix it up with a fresh look — nice touch.
Leaderboards are here too, so you can see how you match up with global gamers. I’m definitely not at the top (I’d like to pretend I am though).
So yeah, check out the Irem Collection Volume 3 on Xbox One and Series X|S. Volumes 1 and 2 are around if you’re up for more old-school madness. Somehow these games never get old, you know?
