AMD has put to rest the swirling speculations about a possible Radeon RX 9070 XT GPU boasting 32 GB of memory.
Frank Azor Clears the Air on RX 9070 XT’s Memory Capacity
There’s been a lot of chatter, fueled by a leaker on Chiphell, about AMD gearing up to release a 32 GB variant of the RX 9070 XT this year—rumors that now stand debunked. The buzz was that this GPU would be part of the ‘Gaming’ lineup, not the PRO series.
Frank Azor from AMD addressed these rumors directly in a post on Techpowerup’s X account, clarifying there’s no truth to them:

The Radeon RX 9070 XT is set to feature 16 GB of GDDR6 VRAM. Given the card’s capabilities, expanding to a 32 GB version wouldn’t necessarily translate to gaming benefits, despite claims that hinted at suitability for AI applications, besides gaming.
So far, AMD hasn’t ventured into 32 GB territory for gaming GPUs, and it makes sense—offering such a hefty memory capacity on an upper-mid-range card might not yield the expected performance advantages. It’s likely the 16 GB limit will remain the status quo for RDNA 4 series, with RX 9070 XT positioned as the top card on the Navi 48 GPU.
In contrast, other models like the RX 9070 and those built on Navi 44 are expected to have lower specifications and, correspondingly, less performance. With the official unveiling of the RX 9000 series slated for February 28th, we’re on the brink of learning all the details, including specs, pricing, and AMD’s official performance metrics for these GPUs.
The series is anticipated to hit retail shelves in early March, a timeframe that coincides with NVIDIA’s launch of the GeForce RTX 5070 GPU. Previously, Azor highlighted that AMD’s 70-class GPUs aim to compete head-to-head with NVIDIA’s, setting the stage for an interesting face-off between the RX 9070 XT or 9070 and the rival RTX 5070 Ti or RX 5070 models.
