Oh wow, so, it’s World Emoji Day, right? And Apple decided to jump in with this new game—it’s on their Apple News+ app, only in the U.S. and Canada though. Emoji Game, that’s what they call it, is basically a word game but with emojis! You drag these little guys into blanks to complete phrases. Fun, huh?
Apple made it themselves, kinda cool. It’s like, the fifth puzzle game on Apple News+ now. There’s Crossword, Mini Crossword, Sudoku, and Quartiles. Emoji Game is all special though, because, ya know, iOS features and all that jazz.
So, here’s the deal: you get a new puzzle every day. Six words or phrases to figure out. There’s a bunch of emojis at the bottom of the screen. Like, picture this—”Disap_ _ _ _,” and you see a pear emoji. You drag it up there and bam—Disappear! But emojis are tricky, because maybe that pear can also stand for fruit. Honestly, it’s a bit like Blue Prince, if you catch my drift.
Things get weird with phrases. Like, _ _ _ _ _ _ Year _ _ _ k. You got a fish and a ghost emoji. Put the ghost in second and it’s Yearbook—’boo,’ get it? School for the fish. School yearbook, go figure. And, oh, there are hints if your brain just goes “nope.”
Also, it’s got this Genmoji thing. Like, there was a puzzle where an eaten apple emoji stood for “core.” Apple, core, get it? I dunno why, but it clicked.
Apple’s really going for that Wordle vibe. You know the drill: daily puzzles, archives, stats, streaks, all that jazz. And social features—up to 16 people can compete, because why not? It’s like Wordle, but with emojis. Not a reason to get a whole new app, but if you’ve got Apple News+, there you go—a new distraction.
Emoji Game’s out today, so if you’ve got iOS, go on and have fun!
