Wuchang: Fallen Feathers—ever hear of it? It’s got a whole bunch of labels now. Some folks call it Souls-slop, others say it’s gooner-bait. But ya know, some say it’s surprisingly good. And now, we’ve gotta toss “censored” onto the pile, thanks to an update—version 1.5—stirring up chatter. Seems like it was meant to hush some grumpy gamers in China. But hey, there are those diehard fans who got the disc version and now feel like geniuses, clutching onto the unaltered original. Oh, the sweet foresight.
So this patch dropped and, well, let’s just say, it’s a mixed bag. Some tweaks were real crowd-pleasers. Healing animation got a speed boost, you can dodge out of recovery animations now, and those i-frames are slicker after getting smacked down. But then there’s the stuff that feels, I dunno, sketchier. They snuck in some new NPC dialogues and hinted at more animation tweaks for storytelling down the line. But what’s that about?
Well, turns out it’s a bit spicy. Lance McDonald, who’s all about those Souls games and an early fan of Wuchang, spilled the beans on social media. Apparently, now you can’t kill certain big-deal historical bosses or NPCs. Nope, they just get tired and chill post-fight, ready for a chat—hilarious, right? Characters like Liu Wenxiu, Liu Cheng’en, and Emperor Chongzhen, who used to bite the dust, now just hang around. It’s wild!
Lance didn’t hold back, tweeting about the uproar over being able to off the late Ming Dynasty “Dragon Emperor.” Seems ironic since this dude was already six feet under in history, plus, it was his zombie version you were taking down. But yeah, some people got really mad, and letting him live now kinda messes with the plot.
Then there’s murmurs about censorship. Lance pointed out that the changes happened after some backlash from Chinese players upset about offing important historical figures. Seriously. It’s like seeing censorship in real time. Oh, and the “pray” gesture from the Portuguese dude? Gone. The Ming soldiers in Chapter 4? They just wave you through now, no sweat. What was once a nail-biter is now a cakewalk.
And would you look at that? The update also brought some enemy and boss nerfs. Cue the outrage on Steam and Reddit. Folks are losing it, accusing mods on the Wuchang subreddit of ditching complaints. One player, after clocking 80 hours on Steam, switched to console out of spite. “Long Live Wuchang 1.0,” they declared. Some folks are even diving into files, attempting to roll back updates.
But hold on, not everyone’s up in arms. PC performance is creeping upward, even if it’s at a snail’s pace. Yet, no redemption for Wuchang’s Steam score just yet. Critics who weren’t fans of the framerate drops are now flooding reviews with cries of censorship. Leenzee, the devs, have stayed mum on why they rewrote Wuchang’s tale. Meanwhile, update 1.5 rolled out on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S earlier today.
