Oh man, so Apple might actually be teaming up with Sony? Heard some whispers about this last year, but like, who knew? They’re saying we could hear something solid as soon as… maybe next week? Wild times.
So, apparently, Apple’s visionOS is getting all buddy-buddy with PSVR 2’s Sense Controllers. And there’s a mention about PlayStation and Xbox gamepads too. It’s like they’re finally opening the gates or something.
Now, whether this is gonna be the big unveiling at the WWDC next week, or later down the road, nobody’s really sure. Apple’s got this whole naming shuffle going on, throwing both macOS and iOS into the mix. New name, new game, I guess?
Anyway — wait, did you see that picture of Hideo Kojima with the Vision Pro? I mean, that caught my eye. No idea why I noticed this, but it stuck with me. Feels kinda futuristic, yet offbeat.
Oh right, the Vision Pro! Ever since its launch in February, it’s like a tough nut to crack for developers. It’s pricey too, like $3,500, which is kind of a big ask. Right now, it only uses hand-tracking and typical Bluetooth stuff. Some devs are kinda scratching their heads, trying to figure out if they should retrofit their games for hand-tracking or just start fresh.
And sure, adding those PSVR 2 controllers isn’t suddenly gonna turn the Vision Pro into a hot-selling gamers’ gadget. But imagine if Apple does embrace motion controls in cheaper headsets down the line? Could be a game-changer, literally.
I heard from this guy, Gurman at Bloomberg, he says Apple and Sony were chitchatting about this early in 2024. Funny thing — not long before, Apple was dead set against VR controllers. Talk about a plot twist.
Anyway, WWDC’s keynote is kicking off on a Monday — June 9th, 10 AM PT. They’re streaming it on Apple’s YouTube, if you’re curious. Could be worth checking out. Or not. Depends if you’re into that sort of tech party. Who knows what they’ll drop? 🤷
