So, there’s this game company, Echtra Games? Gone. Kaput. Zynga pulled the plug on them. Why? Something about “strategic realignment.” Fancy way of saying they’re shuffling things around, I guess.
Max Schaefer—ring a bell? He helped start Runic Games, which gave us the first two Torchlight games. Remember those? Well, in 2016, he left to kick off Echtra Games. That’s the studio behind Torchlight 3, which dropped in 2020. Perfect World’s still holding the reins on that one, by the way.
Zynga scooped up Echtra in 2021. No clue how much they paid. Echtra was cooking up this mysterious RPG for them, dabbling a bit with titles like CSR Racing and even Star Wars: Hunters—yup, that one with all its bumps in the road.
And now? Zynga’s decided to hit the brakes. Yep, they’re cutting off future game projects there and letting people go. They say they’ll handle everything with “respect and consideration.” Which, okay, sounds nice, but still—ouch.
