Vuzix, you know, that company that’s been making smart glasses forever, just got another stash of cash—$5 million, to be exact—thrown their way by Quanta Computer. Yeah, the same Quanta that helps put Apple stuff together. They had already dropped $10 million last September. That was back in 2024, which feels like yesterday but wasn’t.
Anyway, Vuzix is like, “This money is gonna beef up our waveguide thingies,” which sounds important. Paul Travers, the head honcho over there, is all about making these fancy AI glasses cheap and light so everyone wants in. Like, who doesn’t?
Okay, picture time: There’s this snazzy image of their Z100 smart glasses. They look pretty neat, honestly. This isn’t Vuzix’s first rodeo either. They’ve been in the smart glasses game since ’97, which is, what, ancient history in tech years? Started out helping people in factories and hospitals see cool stuff in front of their eyes, I guess.
They also make their own waveguides. I’m not entirely sure what those do, but companies seem to want them, like Garmin and some secret U.S. company. Spooky, right?
Somewhere along the way, Vuzix dabbled in consumer toys too. Remember the V920? Probably not. But now, their Z100s are a thing, designed to connect to your phone like your best buddy—put notifications right up in your eyeballs.
And it’s not just them getting in on the smart specs. Google’s teaming up with Warby Parker for some Android-powered glasses—how snazzy! Meta’s linking up with Ray-Ban to make something Oakley-styled (coming out in June 2025, mark your calendars). Oh, and there’s chatter about Samsung and Apple cooking up their own eyewear creations soon. So, keep your peepers peeled for that!
These glasses are everywhere now—almost makes you wanna whip out your old glasses, just in case they’ve become trendy again. Who knew?
